The governor announces Native Hawaiian Roll Call Commission appointments
September 9, 2011
On September 8, 2011, Governor Neil Abercrombie announced his appointments to the Native Hawaiian Roll Call Commission. The commission was established when he signed Act 195 in July and begins the process that will hopefully lead to federal recognition for Native Hawaiians.
The commission includes members from each county and one at-large seat. The appointees are: John D. Waihe’e (At-Large), Na’alehu Anthony (O’ahu), Robin Puanani Danner (Kaua’i), Lei Kihoi (Hawai’i), and Mahealani Perez-Wendt (Maui). Their kuleana includes preparing and maintaining a roll of interested and qualified Native Hawaiians that would like to participate in the forming of a Native Hawaiian governing body. Once their kuleana is fulfilled, the commission will be dissolved.
